One of our days we were at port on St Thomas, we decided to take the ferry over to St John. It is the smallest of the USVI and 60% of it is protected as a national Park, but there is still a lot to see and do. There are plenty of shore excursions that will take you to the island and that is always a great option. However, if you like to explore on your own like we do, it is not hard to get to the ferry terminal and costs very little to take. We shared a taxi with someone from the pier to the terminal and we got there with plenty of time to spare. Be sure to check the ferry schedule so you get back with plenty of time to catch a taxi and back to the ship.
We decided to explore the area around the ferry terminal on St John. There are plenty of taxi’s around Cruz Bay if you need one. We chose to hang out close by and do some shopping and have lunch. But the best thing we stumbled across was the Lind Point Trail hiking path that took us to a beautiful overlook of Cruz Bay. We followed it down and around to Salmon beach and on further to Honeymoon beach. The trail head is in easy walking distance from Cruz Bay where the ferry terminal is located, but be sure to wear some good shoes because the trail can get somewhat steep in places.
Honeymoon beach has a little shop with kayak, snorkeling gear and chair rentals. There is also a little snack shop with food and drinks. It is a beautiful beach to spend the day snorkeling or just relaxing in the sun.
